Project Summary

MCS International LLC participated in all phases of the Zavkhan River Hydropower Plant project. Our engineering supervision team contributed to ensuring high-quality and reliable project execution by overseeing construction, equipment installation, and testing & commissioning activities.

This project represents the largest hydropower development in Mongolia and marked several major technological milestones for the country. For the first time, advanced techniques such as roller- compacted concrete (RCC) dam construction, installation of waterproof membrane systems, and construction of a deep cement curtain extending to two-thirds of the dam height into the foundation rock—were successfully adapted to Mongolia’s harsh climatic conditions. These achievements stand for significant progress in the national engineering sector.

With the commissioning of the Taishir Hydropower Plant, new opportunities opened for regional economic development while also creating notable environmental benefits. For example:

  • The water level of Ereen Lake has stabilized, revitalizing the local ecosystem and increasing biodiversity.
  • The creation of the artificial Gegeen Lake provided new habitats, enabling the growth of fish and aquatic species and encouraging the return of migratory waterfowl.

As a result, the Taishir Hydropower Plant has become not only a reliable source of renewable electricity but also a strategic infrastructure project that supports ecological restoration and long-term sustainable development in the region
